Dublin Goes Flamenco
A flavour of Spain is to brighten the duller Autumn days in Dublin this weekend, writes Carla Liébana.
Boasting a show that offers all the raw energy and passion of live flamenco - but in a little venue - the event will ensure a memorable experience for lovers of this dance style as well as for newcomers.
The flamenco artist Felipe de Algeciras arrives in Dublin on Friday 16 October to take part in an intimate musical evening in Dublin's Le Basement, downstairs from Le Cirk on Dame Street.
Presented by Peña Flamenca El Indalo, the renowned Spanish dancer and choreographer Felipe de Algeciras will be accompanied on guitar and cajón by Lucas González.
The performance also includes the debut of Rocío Carbonell, a flamenco dancer, singer and percussionist.
Peña Flamenca El Indalo is a not-for-profit organisation founded in 2009 and dedicated to the promotion of flamenco arts and culture in Ireland.
Its founders are from a variety of nationalities and background but they have an interest in common: flamenco.
El Indalo aims to raise awareness of this passionate, multi-disciplinary art form across Ireland, and to encourage and support the development of a community of flamenco lovers.
The peña works closely with Spanish institutions and organises these kind of gigs, classes and workshops and on 16th and 17h October, Felipe will also do another lesson at one of this workshops for people who like flamenco and also to people who want to discover this dance.
Felipe de Algeciras started danced at the age of 13. He has been more than 17 years performing and teaching flamenco abroad and he has also worked as a dancer and choreographer on a number of cinema projects, like 'The Mask of Zorro' with Antonio Banderas and 'Dot the I' starring Gael Garcia Bernal and Natalia Verbeke. Most recently he has launched his own company called 'Alma'.
Doors will open at 8.30pm and tickets cost €15. There will be live music from 9:00pm, with the dancers taking the stage at 10:00pm.

Man Who Falsely Accused Louis Walsh Of Groping Him Loses Appeal
Unemployed dance teacher Leonard Watters, who falsely accused music manager Louis Walsh of groping him in a nightclub, has lost an appeal against his six month prison sentence. Mr Watters pleaded guilty to making two false reports to gardaí that the pop music mogul sexually assaulted him in Dublin nightspot Krystle in April 2011.

Prodijig Celebrate Got To Dance Victory
Irish dance group Prodijig have fought off competition to be crowned the Got To Dance champions. The hip-hop group scooped the £250,000 prize after winning the Sky TV series last night. The group performed at the London Olympia in front of an audience of 6,000.

Man Released Following Dublin Shooting
A man has been released without charge after being questioned in connection with the shooting of a boy in Dublin on Friday. The six-year-old was shot in the neck in Ballyfermot. A man was detained on suspicion of withholding information. A file is being prepared for the DPP.
