Traveller Beaten To Death In Co Tyrone

There has been widespread condemnation after a 38-year-old man died from his injuries after he was dragged from a car and beaten in County Tyrone.

The attack happened in the Castlehill area of Dungannon at around 1pm on Tuesday.

PSNI officers probing the killing of the victim - understood to be a member of the Travelling community - have arrested a 35-year-old man and a 29-year-old woman on suspicion of murder and police have appealed for information.

The Sinn Fein MP for Fermanagh and South Tyrone, Michelle Gildernew, called the death a "tragedy".

"The people of the area are rocked by the tragic death and will, I'm sure, rally around the deceased man's relatives and offer whatever support they can."

"This is a tragedy for the man’s family and friends and they have our sympathy as they go through this terrible time."

Sinn Fein Councillor Bronwyn McGahan has also said she is shocked at the death of a man today in Dungannon.

"I was shocked to hear about the death of a man today in Dungannon and my sympathies goes out to his family.

"I am asking that anyone with information bring it forward to the PSNI and allow them to hold a full and thorough investigation into the circumstance of this mans death."

Ulster Unionist MLA for the constituency, Tom Elliott, said he was "absolutely shocked" to hear of the death.
