Prison Officer Sentenced For Drug Smuggling
A Prison officer has been found guilty of smuggling drugs and SIM cards into Mountjoy Prison.
Jarlath Walsh, 40, from Dublin, has been sentenced to five years in jail.
The court heard how Walsh was caught with two SIM cards, cocaine, cannabis and prescription tablets worth over €20,000 when searched before he began his shift on 20 December 2010.
The former prison officer claimed he was was threatened by men broken who into his car on one occasion and left pictures of his family members and told him they knew where he worked on another.
He admitted it was the fourth time he had smuggled drugs into the prison.

Phone Discovered In Gilligan's Cell
The notorious convicted drug dealer, John Gilligan, has had a secreted mobile phone confiscated from his cell. Gilligan was reportedly overheard having a conversation last Tuesday while alone in his single cell. After a search by prison officers, the phone was found the next day, concealed by 'bluetack'.

The union representing prison officers have spoke of their "embarrassment" over the arrest of a prison officer in connection with drug smuggling. The prison officer was arrested yesterday morning at 7.30am on suspicion of smuggling drugs into Mountjoy Prison in Dublin.
