First Glimpse Of Lemur At Wildlife Park In Cork

Fota Wildlife Park has released the first images of their new baby Black and White Ruffed Lemur, the first to be born in the Cork attraction which is critically endangered with fewer than 500 left in the wild.

The images can be viewed at www.fotawildlife.ie.

The baby boy which has yet to be named was born 4 weeks ago to mother Pudden and father Podge. It spent the first 3 weeks in a tree nest which the mother started to build a week before the birth.

Black and White Ruffed Lemurs are the only primate species that build a nest as the babies are carried around be fully developed when born therefore can’t cling onto its mother.

The public has been asked to suggest names for the Lemur on its website.

HSE Launch Investigation Into Death Of Baby At Cavan Hospital
An investigation has been launched in to the death of a new born baby at Cavan General Hospital last month. The Health Service Executive have begun the investigation to try and establish the circumstances that led to the death. According to reports, a consultant at the hospital has been placed on administrative leave.

Body Of Baby Found In Bin
The body of a newborn baby has been found in a bin in Co Cork. The discovery was made at a property in the city on Thursday after the baby's mother presented herself to gardaí, it has been reported. The body was taken to Cork University Hospital where a post-mortem will be carried out.

'Dead Baby' Born After Misdiagnosis
The HSE is facing tough criticism after a mother who refused to listen to doctors who told her that her baby had died in the womb successfully gave birth to a baby boy. The incident began last year when, after a scan at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda, mother Melissa Redmond was told by a doctor that her foetus had died.

€4.35M Payment For Boy Born With Brain Damage
A four-year old boy who suffered permanent brain damage has been awarded €4.3 million in compensation by the high court. The settlement by the HSE, who admitted liability, is the largest award of its kind. Aaron Trimble was born at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda on Mark 26, 2004.
