Motorist Urged To 'Slow Down' Following Weekend Of Crashes
Gardai and the Road Safety Authority have urged motorists to slow down and take extra care on the roads following a spate of serious collisions over the weekend.
Seven young people were treated in hospital for serious injuries after three separate crashes in Cork, Tipperary and Wexford.
The collisions happened after four young men lost their lives in a fatal head-on crash near Tullamore on Friday evening.
Chief Supt Aidan Reid, of the Garda National Traffic Bureau, said last night that the greatest number of accidents happened on weekends in July and August.
"We again ask motorists to reduce speed, never drink and drive, always wear seatbelts, never use a mobile phone while driving and be well rested. Most importantly, drive in accordance with all the prevailing conditions at that time," he said.
