RTÉ Expect 'Small Surplus' For 2013
Following a series of cost-saving measures, the broadcaster RTÉ has announced that it expects to report a "small surplus" for 2013.
The Director General at the national broadcaster made the announced in an address to an Oireachtas committee hearing, where he added that any additional funding raised by the introduction of broadcasting charge would be spent on increased investment in programmes and other areas including news and drama production.

New Cheaper Drug Prices Introduced
The government plan to replace branded drugs prescribed to patients with cheaper generic alternatives comes into force today. Commonly prescribed drugs will be now be cheaper for both patients who buy them at pharmacies and the Health Service Executive, who buy them on behalf of people with medical cards.

State Still Waiting For New Schools To Built From 2013
Fianna Fáil has criticised the Government over its "failure to get to grips with its own annual plans for the construction of new schools across Ireland over the last five years". Fianna Fáil Spokesperson on Education and Skills, Thomas Byrne, said that construction is yet to even start on five schools which were first announced in 2013.

Art Stolen In 2013 Recovered In Co Offaly
A number of valuable artworks stolen in a robbery in 2013 have been recovered by gardaí in a planned operation in Edenderry, Co Offaly. The six recovered oil paintings - part of a set of 14 Stations of the Cross - were reported stolen from the Church of St. Peter & St. Paul, Kiltullagh, Co. Galway in June 2013.

Two Arrested In Connection With August 2013 Dublin Murder
Gardaí investigating the murder of a man in Dublin in August last year have arrested two men. Dean Johnson was shot dead at Harelawn Green in Clondalkin in August 2013. Gardaí arrested two men, said to be aged in their 20s, in Dublin early on Monday morning. A number of related searches have also been carried out in Dublin and Kildare.
