Irish Woman Dies In Yachting Incident

An Irish woman has died in a yachting incident on the western coast of South Africa.

A Scottish man who was also travelling on the yacht has also died.

The body of the man, 61, was found at the scene and the 49-year-old woman's body has also been recovered.

A 66-year-old Irish man raised the alarm, however he managed to get to shore and was not injured.

The Irish Department of Foreign Affairs has said it is providing consular assistance.

A man is reported to have been arrested in connection with the murder of a Irish man and his wife in South Africa. It is believed that the man is the 75-year-old father of the woman who was killed. The 53-year-old Irish man, who has been named in reports as Kevin McGuirk, is understood to have lived in South Africa for ten years.

Irish Guardsman Dies In Afghan Firefight
The Stormont First Minister Peter Robinson has this morning expressed his sympathy to the family of a soldier from the 1st Battalion Irish Guards who has been killed in Afghanistan. The Ministry of Defence (MoD) announced that he was shot in an ambush while patrolling in the Nahr-e Saraj district of Helmand Province yesterday afternoon.

Russian Espionage Scandal Used Irish Passports
It has emerged that at least one false Irish passport was used by a Russian spy ring allegedly operating in the US. The passport is said to have been passed to a Richard Murphy, who is among 11 people currently under trail in Manhattan Federal court, charged with being a Russian spy.
