Formal Complaint Lodged Over Erection Of Election Posters
South Dublin County Council has received a formal complaint over the illegal erection of election posters.
It has been reported that election posters on behalf of Joanna Tuffy TD had been erected in the Clondalkin and Lucan area on Monday night.
Clondalkin Councillor Jonathan Graham lodged a formal complaint and said posters cannot be erected prior to the order confirming the date of the poll.
He said: "Joanna acted prematurely either on media speculation or an informed tip off. Interesting if the election is not called today, this posits its own connotations.
"Legislation is not aspirational. Joanna as a national legislator should know better. This is flagrant disregard for not only legislation but for the views of her constituents. Something which at this stage of the game does not surprise me. Many constituents become sore with election posters, many community groups even asking that candidates adhere to a voluntary ban on posters in certain areas. This is why rules around the erection of posters are in place.
"I have supplied photographic evidence to the Council and requested that the act on it immediately."
