New Strategies Unveiled To Boost Spanish And Italian Tourism

The Irish Government and Tourism Ireland have revealed two new strategies to boost visitor numbers from Spain and Italy.

The new plans were launched by Tourism Minister Paschal Donohoe today, 08 February.

If successful, the proposals will result in almost 3.8 million Spanish and Italian visitors between now and 2020, representing a growth of 25%.

Key factors to enable Spanish visitor growth includes strong air links between the two countries, with interest in visiting Ireland thought to be high among Spaniards.

In addition, direct air access from Italy to Ireland is a 'strong' incentive for visitors, while new research has revealed over half of all Italian tourists come to Ireland for their holidays.

Minister Donohoe said: "We have seen five consecutive years of growth in overseas visitor numbers to Ireland culminating in a record year in 2015, with more than 8.6 million visits recorded.

"Despite this, we remain ambitious for even further growth in the Irish tourism sector in the years ahead.

"The Spanish and Italian strategies which are being launched today show how visitors from these markets will play a key part in achieving our growth targets."
