Operation Tara: Man Charged After €7,200 Drug Seizure And 3D-Printed Firearm In East Cork
Gardaí in Cork seized a total of €7,200 worth of suspected illegal cannabis and cocaine, along with a 3D-printed firearm, during a search of a home in the Ballymacoda area of East Cork on Friday, 4 September 2026.
The operation was led by the Cork County Divisional Drugs Unit and Serious Crime Unit under Operation Tara.
Officers recovered approximately €4,800 of cannabis and €2,400 of cocaine. The 3D-printed firearm was also seized at the scene.
Both the suspected drugs and the firearm have been sent for analysis.
A man in his 30s was arrested in connection with the investigation and detained under Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act, 1996 at a Garda station in County Cork.
He has since been charged and is due to appear before Dungarvan District Court on Monday, 7 September 2026, at approximately 10.30am.
Investigations are ongoing.

Firearm Found Following Cork Robbery
Gardai have discovered a firearm following a robbery at a house in Cork. The shotgun was found in a field near the home of a businessman at Gluntahaune during searches on Monday. Five men have been arrested and are currently being detained in custody. The weapon has been sent for forensic examination.

A total of 45 people have been arrested in the past 48 hours in Gardaí a crackdown on the sale and supply of heroin and “crack” cocaine in the Dublin region. The operation, which involved Garda drug units from Kevin Street, Pearse Street and Store Street stations, resulted in 150 charges being brought, according to Gardaí this morning.

New Powers Allow For Roadside Drug Testing
The Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport, Shane Ross has announced the commencement of the drug driving provisions in the Road Traffic Act 2016. One of the key measures in the legislation provides for Preliminary Drug Testing, which will enable Gardaí to test motorists whom they suspect of driving under the influence of drugs at the roadside.

Thousands Of Calls Made To Drugs Helpline
Almost 3,000 calls have been made to a special hotline, set up to allow members of the public to report drug dealing in their communities. The Dial to Stop Drug Dealing initiative was set up last September, and is operating in Dublin, Kildare, Cork, Kerry and Limerick.
