Dublin City Council has installed a further 24 cycle lockers of varying types in the city centre as part of a pilot project supported by the National Transport Authority. They add to the 12 units introduced earlier this year on Capel Street and Grafton Street.

Designed for short stays, the lockers allow people to secure their bikes for a few hours while they shop, dine or visit attractions. They are distinct from the separate Bike Bunkers programme, which provides secure parking in residential areas.

There are now 6 lockers on Capel Street, 6 on Grafton Street, 12 in Jervis Street Car Park and 12 in Drury Street Car Park. Over the next 12 months, the council, with Bleeper managing the trial on its behalf, will assess how the different locker types and associated apps perform, and measure demand for this service.

Alec Dundon Senior Executive Engineer, City Centre Projects, Dublin City Council said: "Installing these cycle lockers lets us see how secure short-term bike parking works in busy urban spaces. This pilot will help us understand where lockers are most effective and how people use them, shaping future cycling infrastructure that is practical, reliable and supports more people to feel confident cycling into the city for short trips."
