Commuters Hit By Luas Fare Increase
Dublin commuters returning to work this morning are to face the first in a string of public transport fare increases.
Several are coming into force over the days ahead, beginning with all fares on the LUAS tram system going up by 10 cents, while €2 is being added to the price of a 30-day ticket.
The cost of using bus, rail and DART services will also be increased by 5% from Wednesday.
The Consumers' Association has expressed disappointment with the hikes, saying they will discourage people from using public transport and will push up to the inflation rate.
It says public-transport fares in Ireland are the highest in Europe, even though the service provided is one of the worst.

Public Transport Fare Increases 'Damaging'
Plans to raise public transport fares by up to 10% are "counterproductive" and "damaging", Sinn Féin transport spokesperson Dessie Ellis has said. Following approval of the price increases by the National Transport Aassociation Ellis said: "This should be a time of opportunity for the NTA to build public transport.

75% Of Public Transport Users Won't Be Affected By Fare Hike - NTA
Around 75% of public transport users won't be affected by planned fare increases next month, according to the National Transport Authority (NTA). The organisation said only commuters using Dublin Bus, Iarnród Éireann, Bus Éireann and Luas will see increases of up to 18%.
