Bank Robbers Hijacked Car
Two gunmen crashed their getaway car and hijacked a second vehicle at gunpoint after robbing a bank on Monday morning.
The public have been warned by gardaí not to approach the armed raiders, who burst in to the west Cork bank brandishing weapons before making off with cash.
However, as they left the Bank of Ireland on Market Street, Skibbereen, they crashed their getaway car and then fled on foot to a nearby petrol station, where they ordered a woman out of her car at gunpoint.
Investigating officers said the men are "armed and dangerous" and urged the public to report any sightings of the missing vehicle – a lilac coloured Citroen Xsara, registration 01 D 52470, to gardaí immediately.
A garda spokesman said the men, both Irish, in their 20s, with one around 5ft 8ins and the second 6ft tall, carried a shotgun and air rifle when they robbed the bank at around 11.30am.
"If you spot the car tell the gardaí. We have checkpoints set up around the area now and we would be hopeful of a result," he said.
No one was injured during the incident, but staff were left traumatised, according to a garda source.
Gardai in Galway are also investigating a robbery by a lone male, which occurred at approximately 9.10am on Monday at a Post Office on Prospect Hill, Galway.
A quantity of cash was taken from the scene and the robber fled on foot. Nobody was injured during the incident.
