100 Languages Spoken In Dublin District
The exponential population surge in Dublin has led to the astounding diversity in cultures in the capital, with one local authority area housing residents from 100 different councils.
A detailed survey in the Fingal County Council district of Dublin also found that over 100 different languages and dialects were spoken within its boundaries.
The area, which includes urban centres including Blanchardstown, Balbriggan and Swords, has expanded to almost a quarter of a million residents, with 40,000 non-Irish born people living there.
Mayor of Fingal, Michael O’Donovan unveiled the study on Thursday at the launch of the Fingal Ethnic Network, designed to provide a forum for discussing issues relevant to the new communities.
Over half of the 1,200 people surveyed identified themselves as white Europeans, mainly from eastern Europe, one in five as black Africans and one in seven as Asian.
Over 100 languages were spoken by those interviewed, including Polish, Russian, Romanian, French, Lithuanian, German and Latvian.
A multitude of African languages were also spoken, with Yoruba, primarily a Nigerian language, being the most common.

WIT Secures €2.5m Expansion Investment From Enterprise Ireland
Waterford Institute of Technology (WIT) has secured a €2.5 million investment from Enterprise Ireland to expand its incubation facilities in ArcLabs Waterford. The 1,000m2 extension will be developed on WIT's Carriganore campus. It will allow the institute to double its capacity to support technology start-ups in the South East region.

Coast Guard Issues Fog Warning
The Coast Guard has advised people to stay away from coastal areas where there is sea fog present. The warning comes after two incidents occurred in Dublin on Tuesday. At Sandymount Beach in Dublin, three teenage girls had to be rescued after they because lost in fog.

Topaz To Create 100 New Jobs
Service station operator Topaz are to create 100 new jobs with the construction of two new motorway service stations. An investment of €8m is funding the building of two new services at Junction 3 on the Dublin-Cork motorway (M8) near Ballacolla in Co Laois, and Junction 5 on the Dublin-Waterford motorway (M9) in Co Carlow.
